Top ten Science Fiction Books:
I’ve always read sci-fi. I loved the old-school stuff, the science fiction from the 40’s and 50’s, but also have a feel for the contemporary sf that’s being put out today. I think more of the Cyberpunk fiction that’s coming out is more interesting though. But that may be due to the fact I don’t read enough. Oh, and I’m a big RAH (Robert Anson Heinlein) fan. Pretty much got every novel he wrote now.
- Voyage Of The Space Beagle - A.E. Van Vogt
- Idoru - William Gibson
- Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
- Friday - Robert A. Heinlein
- The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy - Douglas Adams
- Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? - Philip K. Dick
- Solaris - Stanislaw Lem
- Time Enough For Love - Robert A. Heinlein
- And Then There Were None - Eric Frank Russell
- Dark Benediction - Walter M. Miller, Jr.
Top ten Science Fiction Films:
I’ve always loved sci-fi films too. I can’t remember the first ever sci-fi film I saw. It might have been Tron, or even Close Encounters of The Third Kind. I have watched many many more since, and here’s my 2 cents worth on what I think is my top ten:
- Casshern - Japanese live action/CGI which portrays the brutality of war, too.
- Children Of Men - dystopian film set in a near future controlled by a police state.
- Silent Running - eco-friendly film with an amazing moral story more relevant today.
- Blade Runner - is Deckard actually human or not? I think he is (I’ve read the book too).
- Stalker - Tarkovsky’s awesome film based around the Zone. Freaky but powerful.
- Dune - As good as the book.
- Solaris - both the original and remake are excellent.
- Sunshine - what really happens when we go into deep space? Crazy plot, good psychology.
- The Fountain - Spanning centuries, this film explores love as an eternal concept.
- Metropolis (1927) - fabulous silent epic that mixes biblical symbols with the ideology of the future.
